 No.440975[View All]

Once more, we return to an evening full of fine friends, fine booze, and okayish music. Grab a snack, your daki, a blanket, a nice drink, and settle in. I hope you all enjoy yourselves!

As usual, to tune in, point your favorite music player to:

/r/equests are open, but no block requests as usual. Since the 100th Remembrance Day is tomorrow, Nationalism Block will be big and varied. But I hear someone is making a dedicated stream for that tomorrow as well. Tune in!

Aside from that, I've mostly been absolutely reamed by work. Pulling 60-70 hour weeks for the past month in the workload equivalent of walking through the Tsugaru Strait tunnel with 100 pounds of shit on your back. Fun, though. I had today and tomorrow off for fucking once so I decided to get drunk and stream my cute little heart out. It's been two months! I haven't even had time to do anything but fall asleep to Non Non Biyori or Flying Witch either.

Our Torpedofagging friend is still in Japan, and he's been having quite the endearingly incompetent adventure. I eagerly await his return next week.

May your tomorrows be rich and long, anons.

VN soundtracks from this era have a certain quality to them. I wish I could put it into words what it is exactly, but the gist is that I like it.

I only started watching Aria recently after putting it off for so long. Now I'm scared of the future where I've already seen it and can never watch it for the first time again.

>VN soundtracks from this era have a certain quality to them.

>I wish I could put it into words what it is exactly

I agree with both.

Was time the Internet was really slower than today and you should sit in chair to use a computer instead today laptop. Was a kind ritual to use a computer. Was time everyone had time to themselves.

File: 1542000984619.jpg (165.51 KB, 850x850, 1:1, __shiki_eiki_touhou_drawn_….jpg)

It'll come back in a way. If this ever collapses expect internet speeds to crawl back to the way they were in the 90's, regional internets and maybe a few continental or international players. but this won't last.

You just won't live to see it go back to the way it was.

File: 1542001193075.jpg (161.73 KB, 850x934, 425:467, __original_drawn_by_garnet….jpg)

I never thought about it that way, but it's true. Thinking nostalgically about old inconvenient technology reminds me of the fact that I'm getting old.

You're almost making me miss the days of having to share the computer with my whole family.

The problems isn't the Internet speed but the speed of debate on Internet. Just compare o how "jokes/memes/shitposting" the world had in the last year and the quantity of the whole 90's and first half 00's. "We" are eternal state of euphoria.

We are just started to learning how to use Internet. This is like those families come out poverty and become overweight because now they had money do buy fast food and things like than.

In the Japanese case I guess most of family would have a computer for every male of the same in the 90's. That was private thing but was more ritualistic to use.

But it is my vision without academic support like this whole post.

File: 1542001787075.jpg (1021.86 KB, 752x1062, 376:531, __rumia_touhou_drawn_by_su….jpg)

Patience with each click. Time spent pondering a reply. A heft to things that made them both real and stationary. Waiting for things to spin up or boot was part of a ritual rather than an inconvenience. Can you remember the garbled sound of modem handshakes? We just hadn't yet reached that world of instantaneous 24/7 communication. There was a different tempo to everything.

I don't think anyone will ever miss that.

There is something magical about that limited time you had, jockeying for more with family members. I think it's the scarcity of time you get when you have to share that makes the time spent more meaningful.

Patience is definitely a lost art on the internet nowadays. People have become too accustomed to speed.

Now you make me wonder if we had stoped of fell the computers/smartphones as tools and started see as prostheses or even as part of our bodies.

>People have become too accustomed to speed.

But can we handle the speed? The nips looks can do it, but most of world looks had fail on it.

Speed of debate is one, its just the corralling of people to central platforms. And then people leaking things to said platform. Normalfags would still use reddit and facebook or whatever equivalent 10 years from now, but the culture leech definitely tears.Lack of originality, appealing to the lowest common denominator, and then burning something up as fast as possible making it unfun before it got to live out its life. Of course immaturity and being a little kid or teenager helped.

It was shit.

There are some things you can do to relive that experience. Namely using net layers to get some exlusive stuff, 0net, onion sites, and the like. They're powered by potatoes.

Oyasumi anon.

>Normalfags would still use reddit and facebook or whatever equivalent 10 years from now, but the culture leech definitely tears

But this is the normal. Just look at how humans prefer to stay in urban areas than rural ones.

In the Internet case that wasn't a natural thing. Most Megacorps new government support to keeping their empires. Without government subsidies, those companies will start to fall and this time is coming. This will new spring of Internet companies and this could be a really good or bad thing.

But the Japanese Internet had a lot good example o (really) big sites was partial good for the Internet culture. 2ch and niconico are good examples.

Thanks for the stream, Smithee.

I hope anons to sleep well and have a nice week.

You're right without the government those things would wither. But they're not going to fall any time soon, they'll just morph into something else or become vampire companies like EA or Facebook just buying their competition or the next best thing.

Weren't both of those owned/made by Hiroshima though? I don't think he's been a good influence on the internet as a whole since it came out he's a data miner. Youtube was good for a time, it became a cancer when it culled independence back with Google's acquisition and killed its contemparies.

Now people just host on youtube despite the fact they could probably just as easily host it on their website in a webm or mp4 format, but instead they require Google to be inside everything.

Thanks for the stream, Smithee!

Speed of debate is a really good observation, anon. I forget where I read it, but the writer said that nowhere in human history did increased speed/ease of communication translate into more people getting along or less unrest. I guess this sort of shapes anything regarding speed. Technology brings about speed of communication along with a lower mortality rate. Social pressures and corporate and government meddling bring about centralization. Overall density of messages increases. We have flash stock market crashes. Flash fads. Meme lifecycles.
